Setting Norms for Challenging Conversations

This series of resources provides professional development for anyone who would like to learn how to set norms for culturally relevant and challenging conversations in their classroom or community. This resource includes three videos as well as a guide with suggested norms.

Video 1: Norm Setting for Culturally Relevant Conversations Presentation- In this video, Amanda and Jamal explain the importance of norm setting, especially in conversations around race. This is the introductory video to the series.
Video 2: Q&A for Educators- After watching the initial presentation, educators came together for a Q&A session with Amanda and Jamal to ask questions about norm setting and to clarify best practices in the classroom.

Helen Prejean, C.S.J.: Hope Alive in Our Hearts

Sister Helen Prejean, C.S.J., is a model for us, as this prayer service indicates, in the qualities she has displayed for decades: compassion, courage to speak out, concern and respect for everyone touched by violent crime, patience, perseverance, and hope for just change in our criminal justice system as well as an end to the death penalty.

A Journey of Healing and Reconciliation Through Restorative Justice

Education for Justice’s 2018 Lenten Reflections are offered by the Catholic Mobilizing Network, a national Catholic organization working to end the death penalty and promote restorative justice. These reflections are meant to provide a window into God’s immense wisdom, offer connections between Catholic social tradition and restorative justice, and invite us to walk boldy in our faith.

Unit: CST and Restorative Justice

This Unit plan includes five distinct lesson plans on Catholic social teaching and restorative justice, adaptable for middle- and high-school students and adults. The lessons include a range of interactive activities including writing assignments, group research projects and collaborative work, and film discussions.
