It’s International Dance Day! Today is a celebration of a truly unique art form. Dancing has been a part of human culture since the beginning of our history. Through the ages, people have used dance for artistic expression, celebration, prayer, and entertainment.

An NGO called the International Theatre Institute founded International Dance Day in 1982. Every year on April 29th (the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre, the creator of modern ballet), the organization promotes the importance of dance education.

The annually observed World Dance Day should increase the awareness of the importance of dance among the general public. Its goal is also to persuade governments all over the world to provide a proper place for dance in all systems of education.
