To reject another’s human dignity because of race, ethnicity, religion or culture is to reject the God who created a diverse human family. Prejudice and intolerance destroy the common good; the sin of racism can destroy communities and contributes to violence. We must support efforts to create a nation and a world where all are treated equally, because all are equal in the eyes of God.

“Racism is a sin: a sin that divides the human family, blots out the image of God among specific members of that family, and violates the fundamental human dignity of those called to be children of the same Father.” ﹣United States Catholic Bishops, Brothers and Sisters to Us: A Pastoral Letter on Racism, 1979
