Classroom Listening Circle Post Elections

, , , | | November 5, 2024

Facilitate a co-created post-election Listening Circle to provide a respectful space for students to share feelings and perspectives. Through guided prompts, prayer, and consensus-building, students engage in active listening, emotional check-ins, and reflection, fostering empathy and community.

Movement #3 – Consensus Building Activity

An invitation to develop basic expectations, guidelines, or agreements can go a long way toward creating a safe space where students are open to sharing their stories and realities with vulnerability and authenticity.

Directions/Script: “Let us create agreements, guidelines, or basic expectations to which we can all agree as we dialogue. Think about a wonderful communication exchange you have had with another person. What aspects or attributes of the communication made it delightful and memorable for you (and your conversation partner)? What made it such a robust exchange of ideas and thoughts? Please take a moment to reflect and perhaps write down a few thoughts.”
