Prayer for Juneteenth

This prayer commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved African-Americans in Galveston, Texas, were told they were free, almost two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth is symbolic of the end of 400 years of slavery, and we pray to move to prophetic action so all the promises of freedom will be fully realized in our nation.
Commemorate Black History Month in your classroom, parish, or community with activities, reflections, and prayers that span from civil rights history to current events.
