Prayer of Thanksgiving for the Life of Pope Francis

On April 21, 2025, the Vatican announced the death of Pope Francis. Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Buenos Aires, Argentina, he became the 266th Pope of the Catholic Church in March 2013. He was the first Jesuit pope, the first from the Americas. He was known for his emphasis on mercy, his defense of migrants amid political condemnation of the plight of people who migrate, and his concern for the planet—our common home—as climate change accelerates.
Join Education for Justice members across the globe in praying with gratitude for Pope Francis’s life and leadership of the Church. This “Thanksgiving” prayer invites us to reflect on how Pope Francis has deepened our commitment to the vision of the Gospel, in mind, word, and action.
