Islam: Ramadan

The Ramadan fast, the third pillar of Islam, is celebrated during the ninth month of the Muslim Calendar and begins with the sighting of the new moon. Ramadan is significant to the Islamic faith because during this month, in 610 A.D., the first verses of the Qu’ran (the sacred Muslim text) were revealed by God to the Prophet Muhammad.
